Comments: I joined the Army in 1968, went to Viet Nam , put in the 1st Infantry Division 2/34th Armor attached to 2/2nd Mech, volunteered to be a door gunner in the 62nd CAC. It was hot and rainy and I got shot at alot and shot back. Went home on leave and bought a new GTO. It was nice. A grateful nation sent me to 3rd Armored Division, 3/12th Cavalry on the East/West border to stare at East German/ Soviet "cavalry" units. We took pictures of each other through the wire. They weren't friendly but didn't shoot at me. It was cold and snowy. I was a E-5 Buck Sgt, then they made me an E-4 Spec 4. I came home for Christmas 1971 for good. All my old girlfriends had left me, but I still had the GTO. I went to college, got into law enforcement where some strangers still tried to shoot or club me now and then. I would shoot or club back. Now I am 57 years old and retired. I live in Missouri and it is hot and rainy and cold. I dont get shot at anymore though. That is about it except for the details

Comments: Joined the Army in '72, volunteered for VietNam but went to Germany instead. Finally went to flight school in '83 and was assigned to the 62nd Avn Co in Frankfurt Germany from '84 - '87 as a section leader, Bn S-1, and Command Flight Platoon Leader. We still used the "Boss" call sign back then and provided general support to V Corps.

Comments: I wish this were around when I was in high school. My senior project was on the Vietnam War.(great grade) You guys can't let this go down again. I am not a part of the era, but I am curious and grateful and have nothing but respect for you. In '94 I was priviledged enough to interview some vets and get first hand their stories. I will never forget about the "Freedom Bird" or the soldiers who waited for it. God Bless you all and Thank you!

Comments: This is a very moving tribute to the men who served their country at a time when it was not popuular to do so.

I was born in 1962 and still have vivid memories of what happened in those years. You all have my deepest respect and though it is much too late, I want to welcome you all home. You mean so much to me personally.

I joined the military in 1981. I want you to know that your sacrifice and those who never came homehas not gone unnoticed. It had alot to do with my decision serve my country.

You are all my heros.

Comments: I was with the Royal Coachman from Jan. 1969 thru Feb. 1970. I was maintenance crew leader during that time in Phu Bai on UH-1's. This site brought back a lot of memories for me. I have quite a few pictures during that time period. There was a web site that I think Rollie Hubbard maintained several years ago but I cannot find it or remember how to get to it. It had a lot of pics of people that I served with.

Comments: Good to see the new website.Started with 62nd at Phu Bai in Jan'70 and moved with it to Danang Marble Mountain that summer. Had OH-6's initially that were replaced by OH-58's, that were hard to hover. Also UH-1, U-21. Remember names like Major Stone,Major Sloan,Tom Poole,John Fosdick,John Conway,Cpt Oosterhuis,Cpt Stark, and then it gets fuzzy.Have over 600 slides, but do not know how to cheaply convert them to DVD.

Comments: It has been brought to me that people using the guest map are having problems trying to find it, if you click on the links button and go down to the guest map and click the logo for guest map then it will open up so you can post your info and pinpoint your location, I don't want to try moving it to a front page button I think we stand a good chance of losing what little we have there, remember that the guest map is a free Bravenet thing. If you have any problems with in the site you can always contact me or Becky and we will help you in any way we can. Thank you

Rollie

Comments: I ordered 10 coachmen pocket patches at a price of $13.80 per patch, they are like what we wore on our pocket in Nam, if you want one let me know and I will send it to you for what it cost me ($13.80). I think 5 are taken at this time, if these are a wanted item I will order more.

Comments: New Year's Eve 1971: party at the O-Club welcoming the Year 1972 listening to a Filipino Band with nasally lyrics of Auld Lang Syne and then finishing off the night of revelry with "Let's get out of this place if its the last thing we ever do!" Oh. those were the days my friend!

Comments: Those members wanting to find former 62nd Avn Co personnel may have good luck by using:
www.zabasearch.com
It works well if you can remember what STATE they were from or where you last contacted them, and their full name (from orders, etc). I have found several ARMY personnel using the site.
GOOD LUCK!

Comments: I was assigned in 76 to the 62nd after they were reassigned to Bonamase,Germany. Our mission, primarily VIP transport, and general harrasment of the local German's airspace was one of the best memories I had in my 20 years in Army Aviation - "Above the Rest" Who says "you can't go home again?"
