212th Combat Aviation Battalion
The 212th Comabt Aviation Battalion was activated 1 March 1967 at Fort Campbell Kentucky, where predeployment training was conducted. The Battalion deployed to the Republic of Vietnam on 10 July 1967 aboard the USNS Banett, arriving at DaNang on 30 July 1967.Upon arrival the Battalion Headquarters was stationed at Marble Mountian Air Facility, located on the coast of the South China Sea near the city of DaNang. Marble Mountian has remained the home of the base of the "Wings of Freedom" Battalion to the present day. Since becoming operational in August 1967 te Battalion has been engaged in continuous combat operations throughout Military Region 1. During this period the Battalion and its subordinate units have recieved numerous awards in recognition of an outstanding combat record.
